Top 10 ways to manage people more effectively

1. Match the right person to the position – define the requirements of the position and find the person who fits the job rather than redefining the job to fit the capabilities of the incumbent;
2. Continue to provide training courses which help people upgrade their skills – continuous training keeps people at their best;
3. Acknowledge and reward the high performers – pay them what they are worth, it will be returned to you tenfold or more;
4. Have expectations and tell people up front exactly what these expectations are;
5. Move fast on critical personnel decisions – delay in making these decisions will hurt your business;
6. Address those who are not performing well, otherwise it will cost you;
7. Stretch people by setting a challenge;
8. Hire a coach to assist people in meeting the challenge;
9. Know that often pride drives performance more than money – give credit where credit is due and compliment people for doing a great job;
10. Involve more people not just the top management in both developing and implementing strategies.
