Message from the President
Dear HKICC Friends,
Do you trust in intuition? Or do you rather prefer to analyze things and trust only the facts?
This month's newsletter takes intuition into its focus. Closely related to intuition seems the question of what is reality or the 'truth'.
Let me give you a very simple example that shows that the question of truth is actually very tricky.

[Editor's note: This is the second installment of a 2-part series suggesting ways to develop intuitive skills. The first, Intuition in Business, presenting insights into the nature and uses of intuition, was published in the last issue.]
by Lynn B. Robinson
Using your intuition is about using more of your brain's potential, as discussed extensively in the first article of this series. It is also about using more of your body and spirit. Proof of intuition as brain power is abundant, as a total body function is growing, and as spiritual functioning is more tenuous but being successfully subjected to increasingly rigorous research.
As you read, you'll find a number of suggestions to take you beyond whatever level of intuition you now recognize. None of the data upholding the veracity of intuition as developmentally possible will be presented here. Your own experience with intuition is far more convincing than the reams of research available.

| Six Ways to Strengthen Your Intuition |

http://www.steve-olson.com/6-ways-to-sharpen-your-intuition/
Practical Intuition
Your intuition is a shortcut to productivity, insight, knowledge, innovation, and decision-making. So how do you harness your intuition?
You Have The Ability To Solve Problems Instantly
Have you ever looked at a problem and known the root cause and the solution - instantly - without research? You've been taught to distrust that inner voice, right? So you test your intuition with empirical trial and your intuition is usually right, isn't it?
You have the ability to solve problems instantly if you trust yourself. We all do. So how do we harness the power of our inner creator - the voice that cuts through all the bullshit and tells us the truth?

This month's question:
Q |
I want to advertise my services to a larger audience but advertising is quite expensive. I've heard there were many ways to advertise without the need to spend a lot of money. In particular using Google because you only pay when somebody buys from you. Do you have any comments or suggestions on other ways I could use? |
A |
Thank you for your question. One of the first things I learned when starting up a small business is to qualify whether something is an expense or investment. If you're a huge multinational, then blanket advertising is an investment. If you are a small company, then that same action would be considered an expense. The difference being that with a small company, every ad you run is done so that a potential client can find you and book your services. A large organization has already established itself within the market and is doing advertising campaigns to increase its brand awareness in the general market.
My suggestion to you would be to start looking at all advertising and marketing as an investment. This would mean tracking the effectiveness of every campaign in terms of revenue received against money spent. If you're not making a return of at least eight times what you have invested, stop that marketing activity.
In your question, you made reference to Google and their pay-per-click system. In principle this is an excellent system if you have a product that everybody who comes to your website, will buy. Google's system is designed to put your product or services right there in front of the Google searcher and then redirect them to your site. You then pay Google for everybody that they have sent to you. You pay Google regardless of whether this person, buys anything from you or not. In my opinion, this is not a logical approach to marketing a small business. What would make more sense is to pay a performance based fee to organizations or people that drive business to you.
In addition to options like Google, you may want to consider online networking organizations. In my experience, I have found that what happens online still closely follows what happens in the real world. The people who are most likely to refer business to you are other professionals related to your field of work, as well as friends.
Most organizations agree that the best place to meet a potential customer is at a trade fair, organized by the industry, for the industry. I'm assuming that you're a coach and would suggest that you seek out trade fairs in this industry that you may attend. If there are none, I would recommend that you urge your local representative body to organize one. While there is no online trade fair for the coaching industry, I would suggest joining an online community such as "ecademy" where you will be able to connect with other people in a similar industry for the primary purpose of business.
The other thing that I would recommend is leveraging on the popularity of online social networking sites, in particular, Facebook. This gives you the opportunity to connect with a huge audience that has already agreed to find out about you and what you do. |

What led you into coaching?
Many things, but probably the most powerful of them all was my first encounter with coaching. I was working as an audit manager at the time at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and juggled with the usual suspects: work, career, family, you name it. Coaching changed my perspective enormously, I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, things started to fall into their places. I have walked the talk and it became 'my call'. As my professional career took off I also learned to enjoy the demanding roles of a spouse and mother. After completing my second Masters degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a number of coaching programs I realized I could do more: I could be perfectly positioned to help fellow professionals and executives to better cope and enjoy their life and career.

Dear Readers,
Many of us say we are aware of our intuition. How many of us have the courage to act on it? When we step into our intuition, we learn to be comfortable with the uncomfortable. Acting on our intuition relies on faith - faith that we will do what we need to, that we can count on ourselves.
As coaches, we of course practise accessing our intuition to take our clients to a deeper level of understanding of themselves. Listening between the words, hearing the hints when they try to cover up with complaining or blaming, pretending they are okay when they are not, hearing them rush their words - our intuition can pick up on these little clues that something is being touched upon. And, when our client hits something core, then is the time to sit in the silence - to be with it, to step back and allow them to experience that moment and feeling. Magic!
Now I'm wondering - is my intuition telling me that you no longer have an interest in the Book Lovers Column? Since taking up this post last May, I have yet to receive a contribution. This newsletter is for you - so do let us know how we can serve you and what you want to see.
