What led you into coaching?
It all started with the urge to embark on a self-discovery and developmental journey. My first experience of coaching was being a "coachee" - I am very grateful that I had a great coach to guide and encourage me to look into myself, to understand my beliefs and needs, and to value "me". Over the years, I have come to believe and appreciate more of myself, and at the same time, being more appreciative and understanding of people around me.
Who do you typically coach?
Mainly business managers and their teams in work context.
In fact there are so many "coaching moments" in life that I often start coaching without even noticing it: with my friends, my family and even strangers sitting next to me on a plane/ ferry.
What does coaching mean to you?
To me coaching is a natural and very powerful way of communicating. It's about understanding and believing of self and others.
Tell us something unique about your coaching style.
My strength lies in deeper listening, reflecting and inference.
I help clients to acknowledge who and where they are, identify their core limiting beliefs and performance gaps, then empower them to move on and reach higher.
I focus on creating capacity and readiness for change in my clients, and building awareness and mental strengths for emotional challenges. It's a co-active approach inviting them to discover themselves and own their development.
What is your favourite coaching tool?
It really depends on WHO the client is. There are so many wonderful coaching tools available, and I believe that more importantly it's about why, when and how we use the tools than what tools to use. Recently I came across a book "Facilitative Coaching" by Dale Schwarz and Anne Davidson that provides a great toolkit for coaches. There are lots of tools in the book that I have used or will try out in future.
In some instances I also use leadership/ personality assessment and 360 feedback survey at the beginning of a coaching engagement. They provide great perspectives, help us set goals and measure progress.
Why did you join HKICC?
The organization provides good opportunity to learn and a platform to exchange with professional coaches as well as people who are interested in coaching.
What do you do for fun and relaxation?
There are lots of things that I enjoy - reading, watching movies, jogging, listening to music¡K and simple things as cooking, taking a stroll with my husband, spending a few minutes meditating, breathing in fresh air/ fragrance of flowers/ plants¡K and many, many more.
