Message from the President

This issue reflects overall, a rich variety of activities with good opportunities for HKICC in October, fostering a culture that reflects HKICC's mission where we assist people to become effective professional coaches, who then inspire and empower others to achieve and create organizational change. With global local affiliation, we offer a pool of resources to foster professional development, mutual support, sharing of knowledge and expertise and with a culture of continuous learning.

HKICC makes progress because for most part, our coaches are engaged selflessly, supported by good culture of a true community with fun and humor. Our VPs and coaches responded magnificently to these opportunities. During October, these were:

  • TOP 10 Best Thoughts to lift you UP!

    By Lorraine Lee

Feeling a little down, stressed and tired? Feeling too rushed, overwhelmed or maybe bored you’re not sure what you’re doing? We all experience these moments sometimes so you’re not alone.  Uplift your spirits with these best-thoughts tips that will bring you calm and serenity. To get started, you need to take a quiet moment and focus the mind. Here goes:

    1. Think Positive – yes, we’ve all heard this one – and it works! Everything is how you look at it, how you perceive and interpret it. Is the glass half full or half empty? See the good in all things. Think of the cloud with the silver lining. You’ll feel consoled and in a lighter mood.
    2. Think Warm & Fuzzy – who or what puts a smile on your face? who/what makes you laugh, feel warm and loved? See that image in your mind and capture the great feeling of how it makes you feel. Are you smiling now?

Committee Member Profile – Angela Leung

    Vice President Finance

What moved you to give your time so generously to make a contribution to HKICC?  I have a passion for coaching and would like to see more people know about coaching.  HKICC is a very good channel to promote coaching in Hong Kong. Since I have a background in the accounting profession, I think I can help in the accounting/finance functions for HKICC.

What do you most like about the community? What do you least like about it? I like the community for it being able to attract people of different nationalities and background to work together on coaching development. The least that I like about the community is that the members are too busy and we don’t have much chance to meet face to face.

Member Profile – Adair Stewart Good

    Director and Founder: essential coaching

    How did hear about us?
A corporate trainer friend of mine took me to a meeting and I joined shortly after that. I also had a meal with Angela Spaxman who told me more about HKCC (as it was known then). We had a lovely evening.

What made you join as a member?
I liked the people and felt that it would be good to join a group of like minded coaches to share ideas and network.

What is one quality which you think is essential to have as a Coach?
I think that the ability to inspire others is essential to have in a coach.

SCMP publishes first articles contributed by HKICC coaches

    By Lorraine Lee

In recent weeks, South China Morning Post (SCMP), largest English language daily newspaper in Hong Kong started a new column in their Saturday ‘Living’ section about how to change life for the better.

The first 3 articles of a series of articles were contributed by HKICC members.  John Bower kicked off with the first article out on 7th October 2006 with “Balancing Tricks”. Read what John says about how to achieve more of what you want. In the second article “Time of your life” published on 14th October 2006, Susie Li talks about procrastination and the different ways of looking at and managing it. On 21st October 2006, Charlie Lang’s “Righting a wrong” outlines how to transform a potential conflict to a constructive outcome in a simple 3-step plan.

Thanks to the coaches for their contributions which help to increase awareness of coaching and its positive impact to changing life for the better and to increase the profile of HKICC too! More articles will follow and to ensure you don’t miss any of them, these will be uploaded in the Resources section of the HKICC website as well as the link to the articles included in our newsletter.

Do you hate selling but want to accelerate your business?

Even though I was in sales related positions all my corporate life, I never really enjoyed selling in the traditional sense of the word.

Luckily, in late 2003 I discovered that you can actually get more business by “Stop Selling” and instead using coaching skills to accelerate buying decisions.
