Message from the President

Dear Friends of HKICC,

I feel very honored that the members of the Hong Kong International Coaching Community expressed their trust in me to lead the largest association of coaches in Hong Kong as their next President.

This is not a small responsibility and I look forward to working with an excellent Executive Committee to bring HKICC closer to our vision of 1,000 * 1,000, i.e. 1,000 members and a 1 million HKD budget by the end of 2009.

When I asked our members what they would expect from me if I was elected President, I kept hearing that HKICC should develop into the professional body for coaches in Hong Kong.

  • TOP 10 Tips: Finding the Right Coach

Adapted by Carole Lewis from:   www.njcoaches.org

    1. Interview the coach
Most professional coaches offer a complimentary coaching session or consultation. Use this time, or your preliminary contact with them, to ask questions. Consider what answers are the most important to you. Some questions will come up from the other tips, but a good place to start is:

What brought you into the profession of coaching?
How long have you been a coach?
How many clients have you had?
Do you have a coach yourself (most coaches do)?
    What is your coaching specialty?

    2. The “click”
The importance of being able to "click" with the coach outweighs almost everything else. If you do not get along with the coach, you will not be able to work collaboratively. If you don’t click with that particular coach during the complimentary coaching session or consultation, ask her/him to give you the name of other coaches you could contact. Be prepared to keep looking until you find the coach that is the best fit for you.

    AGM Highlights

    By Michelle Gabbe

CHANGE was the theme of HKICC's annual general meeting (AGM), which was held on Thursday evening, 26th April. Kicking off the evening was a 90-minute interactive presentation of the 6 Conditions to Change by certified Spiral Dynamics Integral Practitioners Ivy Ning and Lilian Wang. Being asked to apply the 6-conditions process to an issue requiring change in their own lives was a treat for the audience of mostly coaches, many of whom spend so much of their time facilitating the development of everyone but themselves.

New Coaching Standards Logos for Your Website

    By Carole Lewis

    New Coaching Standards Logos!

The new coaching standards logos for HKICC members are now available for you to copy into your coaching profiles. They may be added to your website or written materials to add credibility and proof of your integrity as a coach. But first, please take some time to ensure that you truly abide by the standards required of HKICC coaches. All coaches who are listed in the HKICC Coaching Directory are required to abide by these standards.

    What are HKICC’s coaching standards?

HKICC’s coaching standards represent our common beliefs about coaching and align us as professionals across a wide range of coaching specialties.

Meet our Members: NEW Executive Vice President, Anita Moorjani

Life Coach, MPNLP (ANLP), C.Hyp (ABH)

How long have you been involved with HKICC?
Since 2002. I am one of its founding members.

    Who do you coach?
Just about anyone and everyone, as long as they want to be coached. I have an affinity for people who are in a “stuck” state, and feel that they have tried everything, but nothing has worked. I know how they feel, because I’ve been there! And I know first hand that it’s never too late to make transformational life changes.

I also conduct workshops and particularly enjoy motivating large groups of people. I love the energy that’s created in a group setting.

Tell us something unique about your coaching style.
I like to call myself a “Transformational Coach”. My desire is to motivate and empower people from the inside out. I work on the premise that our inner world is our primary reality, and if our internal state is healthy and strong, then our external world will align itself and fall into place as a result.

    OUR WONDERFUL SPONSORS

    Hello Coaches!

I’ll start by thanking Immediate Past Editor Lorraine Lee for her generous contribution to the newsletter, and for gifting me with a gentle handover of a well-oiled machine. Let’s wish her the very best as she dons yet a new HKICC hat as VP- Membership. Those of you who missed the AGM can learn all about your new leaders in this issue, including a profile of new Executive VP Anita Moorjani.

“Oh, I see you’re right back in your comfort zone!” was what my own mentor coach wisely remarked when I told her I’d be taking up the HKICC newsletter editor role. Huh. I had expected her to applaud my initiative in joining a community of peers in a profession that is so new to me, but once again she reflected on what a limited self-view I sometimes hold. Ok, so I did spend the last 7 years managing the editorial output of a major publisher, but that didn’t necessarily make me ‘qualified’ to put together this newsletter for coaches. Or did it? How might your negative self-talk be limiting your own professional development?

Over the coming months, I hope to enrich the content of this e-monthly with more original articles and new recurring features. Please let me know how I’m doing! I look forward to hearing from you with feedback as well as content suggestions.

    Happy reading,

    Michelle Gabbe
    Editor, HKICC
