Message from the President

A local community turns global
The dream is now a reality. With support from coaches, trainers, therapists, HR people and other professionals, HKICC was inaugurated on the 26th April 2006. It serves as a platform for all professional coaches. As the newly elected President, I would like to take the opportunity here to express my gratitude for all those who have served before me. I am deeply indebted to their great efforts in building a strong foundation for HKICC.

Member’s needs
At the AGM, I heard your needs as an aspiring coach or as an established personal or corporate coach. I am committed to work with my management committee members on the groundwork that is already there. Your wish to have your needs met and for more resources are noted down and will be discussed at our next Focus Meeting. We will be working together to turn some and eventually, all of these written ideas into reality.

The Way Forward

  • HKICC will continue to serve as the “voice for coaches and people who use professional coaching services”
  • HKICC will defend and promote coaches and clients’ interests and will also serve as an advocate and lobbyist for professional coaching
  • It will also carry out educational, promotional and community relation efforts to educate the public about the tremendous economic and social benefits our coaches can provide on a daily basis. Coaching is being recognized more and more internationally as an emerging and significant profession
  • HKICC is interested to form alliances with other organizations to discuss cooperate strategies and promote coaching.  Some organizations have approached us and talks are in progress
  • HKICC works towards establishing itself as a professional body and serves to assist aspiring, new and experienced coaches
  • HKICC will play an active role in the local and international coaching community and welcomes all opportunities to learn, listen and grow.

You’re are an asset to HKICC
If our agenda appears broad – it is- but I feel it is crucial at this time. Thank you for continuing to support HKICC. I am looking forward to the coming year which will be filled with many opportunities for exciting developments. I would very much like to hear your comments and feedback on how we can work together to move forward, please send me an e-mail or call directly.

Peace.

  • Who’s Who in Coaching

    by Vikki G. Brock

Vikki G. Brock, MBA, MCC completed a survey to find out the key influences and influencers in the field of coaching. Her findings of this 2005 survey provide some fascinating and helpful insights into the coaching profession. Her findings have shown that when viewing the demographic information, it is safe to say that coaches are generally highly educated, mature, and multifaceted professionals who work in professions related to coaching.

The Top 10 List: Things to do when you feel blocked and tired

    By Deborah WY Ko

    1. Take a power nap, this gives your mind and body a break to work through a block.
    2. Move your body.  Take a walk or hit the gym, do something that increases your body’s metabolism.  This lifts your spirit and loosens up your mind, resulting in a greater energy flow.
    3. Get in touch with your coach.  Your coach is trained to listen and offer help and support.
    4. Indulge in your passion.  I’m passionate about cycling so I get on the bike whenever I feel blocked.
    5. Eat or drink something really delicious.  When I’m stuck, I’ll have some chocolate or fresh juice. Have something that works for you.
    6. Do something different.  Work on a different project or task for a while and then go back and see if you have any new ideas.
    7. Listen to great music
    8. Talk to a loved one
    9. Establish a routine.  A routine provides momentum and this will keep you from getting stuck. So, schedule in an hour or so of work between appointments.
    10. Tidy up your workspace.  Having a disorganized space can be an energy drain.  When I get stuck, I often take a few minutes to put things away or clear my desk so there’s less stuff dragging me down.

What is your favorite Top 10 List? Send it to Deborah and we will publish it here.

    Annual General Meeting (AGM)

    by Deborah WY Ko

“Professional athletes talk all the time about my game. But your game doesn’t belong to you when you’re a team – there’s no such thing as my game, there is only the game. Your effort belongs to your teammates and theirs belongs to you, and they’re inextricable. The same is true of any gathering of people in one place, for any purpose. The definition of a team is a group of people who share the same aim, experience, and values.”

Lance Armstrong 7 times winner of Tour de France
    Every Second Counts

Armstrong is not only a living legend but for me, he’s also a role model. It’s abundantly clear that the successful launch of HKICC at the AGM on the 26th April was largely due to the team effort of all the members and volunteer people. Together, they pooled their resources, talent, ideas and much more to make the evening truly historic, fun and memorable.
