Greetings!
When approached to get more involved in the Coaching
Community my initial reaction was 'do I really have
the time?' As I thought about it a little more, I thought
'I don't really have the option to say no!' Let me explain.
The Coaching Community exists for US. For me and for
you. People who are interested in coaching and for coaches
who are just starting out or who are years into their
coaching practice. My personal definition of 'community'
is where no one stands alone. When approached to take
up the Editor's role, I thought if this community exists
for me not to stand alone in my journey of coaching,
then I should give a little back to it so others don't
have to stand alone in their journey.
Before I moved to Hong Kong I contacted Angela who
at the time was the president and it was this coaching
community that encouraged me that setting up a coaching
business again was viable. Many people gave me the information
and support I need to get started. Without the interaction
from people like Angela, Bonnie & Charlie, Teen Success
Life Coaching Services wouldn't be impacting the families
and teenagers that it is today.
So I want to put the challenge out there to you - how
are you going to contribute to the community for the
rest of this year?
Warm wishes,
Jaime Simpson

Be
a full time coach to realize my true self
I worked in a professional field for many years
after my graduation. My career was quite smooth
in those years, and I accumulated technical knowledge
and skills. However, I felt that there was something
missing. I felt that my daily work, my current
life and I were all falling apart. There were
tremendous stresses from different requirements
by different groups of people around me. I lost
myself and I felt that I was in a cage, which
limited my development and freedom. I asked myself
where I am and where do I want to go.

from the Coaching Standards Creation Workshop |

By
Angela Spaxman
18 HKCC coaches converged on Saturday afternoon
April 16, 2005 to answer the question "What values
and standards do we want for HKCC coaches?" We
started by expressing ourselves through pictures,
progressed to words and finished with sentences
in 5 categories describing what we want and expect
from fellow coaches. The categories are: Integrity,
Competence, Coaching Relationships, Coaching Goals
and Specializations.

Standards Creation Workshop Report |
 |
|
Angela
Spaxman, as a representative of HKCC's Executive
Committee, introduced the purpose of the workshop:
the first step in a process to create a definition,
standards and a code of coaching for the Hong
Kong Coaching Community. The process will be flexible.
The aim is to complete the process in August 2005
in time for a press release in September 2005.
Some other steps in the process will include online
discussions, comparisons to other existing coaching
definitions and codes of ethics, refining the
wording and presentation.

Don't Sell Their Soul |
 |
|
By
John Bower of St. George's Human Potential and
Charlie Lang of Progress-U Ltd.
Did you ever hear a coach saying that he wouldn't
like more clients? Probably a rare case here in
Hong Kong, perhaps even in Asia.
Did you ever hear a coach saying that he loves
selling his services? Maybe an even rarer case.
Does that sound like a paradox to you? Yes it
is, as long as you associate sales with the traditional
way of selling. No, it's not a paradox anymore
once you know that there is an active approach
to business development that doesn't require a
coach to sacrifice his integrity in order to fill
his practice, serve lots of human beings, and
put bread on the table.

partly instructive - will explore how Paradox

Message
from the President |
|
|
It was my great honour to be invited by Alex
Cheung to attend the NLP practitioners' graduation
ceremony held in China this April. Not only their
outstanding performance but also their passion
& will to serve, to learn and to transform impressed
me a lot. In China, "Coaching" is called "Coaching
Technology". A local coach, one of the participants,
expressed his eagerness to acquire NLP skills
to build his professional know-how. He was then
able to grasp a faster rapport with his clients.
In his opinion, coaching is regarded as an excellent
platform for personal advancement. To me, it is
exciting to see Coaching proliferate gradually
in China. Will it be your next targeted market?
Cheers,
Bonnie
Chan
