Message
from the
President

Dear Friends of HKICC,
As the summer in Hong Kong is on full
steam, I get the impression that the
interest in coaching in Hong Kong is also
charging full-steam ahead.
While that is good news for all coaches
who are on the right boat (to stay with this
analogy), it should not be forgotten that
coaching can develop into a mature industry
here only if it lives up to the expectations
of those who engage coaches, be it for
personal or professional purposes.
Unmet expectations lead to
disappointments. Many disappointments lead
to discrediting of coaching. Discrediting
leads to the (perhaps premature) death of
the industry.

AIESEC-HKICC Volunteer Coaching Project
Coordination Team 2006-2007
HKICC members have offered volunteer coaching
services for a number of years, to recipients
including Salvation Army staffers and leaders
of student organization AIESEC, as well as
local medical professionals facing the
challenges of SARS. As HKICC embarked on a
third round of volunteer partnership it
became time to start formalizing the
developing process and consider expanding the
volunteer service to other organizations.
This article will give you a brief overview
of how our volunteer coaching service works
with AIESEC so that you may consider to: join
us as a volunteer coach, suggest ideas for
project expansion, or refer additional
organizations that could benefit from working
with us.

| Executive Coaching - the Return on Investment |
 |
|
Adapted by Carole Lewis from: source
Merrill C. Anderson, Ph.D. with
MetrixGlobal, LLC was commissioned by the
International Coaches Federation to
determine the business benefits and return on
investment (ROI) for an executive coaching
program. What follows are some of their
findings.
A Fortune 500 firm launched an
innovative leadership development effort that
was expected to accelerate the development
of next generation leaders. The participants
in this effort were drawn mostly from the
ranks of middle managers and from many
different business units and functional
areas.
Coaching was considered to be a key enabler
for this approach to leadership development
because the participants could work
privately and individually with his or her
coach to develop specific leadership
competencies.

Who do you coach?
I have two types of clients:
• Corporate leaders and managers who
want to become better at what they do, and
utilize their full potential to go to the
next level; I coach executives individually
or in teams for high performance
and
• Private clients: expatriate women
in career transition, new to Hong Kong or
not, usually with focus on career/life
balance.
Tell us something unique about
your coaching style
I can be really serious and really playful,
and I am always fiercely committed to my
clients’ success in a compassionate
way.

DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF
EGYPT!
Some years ago, I was finally
on my first trip to Egypt, this land of
mysteries and pharaohs and, of course, the
great pyramids. It was a special gift to
myself to have subscribed to this trip and,
as I was to see, an experience that was to
change my life and the course of it. Indeed,
6 months later I was no longer running the
successful business I had been involved in
for 15 years. Instead, I was starting to set
the milestones to organize and facilitate
journeys through this magical land and
eventually also to other destinations, with
strong energy vortices and pull, with an aim
to share the wonderful experience and to
facilitate growth and consciousness.
This journey is
indeed a trip through Egypt, with visits to
all the major tourist attractions, but we
will be seeing much more and differently
from the usual tourist tours. Please go to my
website and check out some of what we have
in store for this special group: www.3dom.biz/egy_intro.php or www.3dom.biz/egy_prog.php
I look forward to
seeing you in Cairo on 20th
September!

Hello Coaches!
Why is it so hard to explain the value of
coaching to the uninitiated? Admittedly, even
as I was jetting overseas to receive formal
training in coaching, I wasn’t
completely sold on the concept. It was only
after having benefited from the dual
experience of coaching others and being
coached that it finally
‘clicked’.
Over the coming months, I aim to orient
each newsletter around a general theme. This
month we have focused upon the value of
coaching from two perspectives. Firstly, for
organizations that are looking for
significant results from sponsoring executive
coaching, Carole Lewis has found research
detailing tangible and intangible evidence
of ROIs exceeding 500%! And from a decidedly non-bottom-line orientation is an
article on our own member coaches’
experience offering volunteer coaching
services to a youth organization.
What would you most like to read about in
future issues? I welcome your ideas!
Happy reading,
Michelle Gabbe
