HKCC Newsletter
June 2005

Greetings!

"Early one morning a man was walking along the beach, watching the ocean waves breaking on the shore, and he saw a most unusual thing. He saw that the beach was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed up on shore and were dying in the sun. Far down the beach in the distance, he could see a young woman picking up starfish and throwing them back in the ocean, one at a time. When he was close enough to her to be heard above the waves the man said, "you're wasting your time. There are thousands of starfish here. You can't possibly make any difference". The young women reached down, picked up a starfish, and threw it as far as she could, back into the sea. "I made a difference to that one," she said, and she reached down to pick up another" Author: Loren Eisely

Keep on changing one life at a time.

On behalf of HKCC I'd personally like to take the time here to thank Anita our previous editor, for her contributions to the coaching community and ensuring we were all up to date with what was happening at HKCC.

It's so exciting to see how many events our HKCC coaches are holding. Our summer newsletter will be out at the end of July which will cover July and August edition. Don't miss the opportunity to get some articles and adverts in.

Enjoy.

Want to Help Define Coaching in Hong Kong?
HKCC has been writing a set of standards to define coaching for HKCC coaches. All coaches who wish to be listed in our directory of coaches will need to uphold these standards. We want your input to make sure these standards truly reflect our members' aspirations. There are several ways you can take part.

    1) Join the Coaching Standards Yahoo Group to read or contribute to the latest developments. Send a blank email here.
    2) Join a small gathering of coaches who will be putting the finishing touches on our first draft.

    When: 12:30 to 3:00pm, Tuesday June 14
Where: Active Communications, 1301 Universal Trade Centre, 3 Arbuthnot Road, Central
What: Please bring your lunch as we'll have a casual lunch together
RSVP: Contact Angela for more info, or to confirm your place. Tel: 2918-0785.

The completed first draft of the standards will be available for your viewing and input in early July with our aim to complete the standards by September. We look forward to your support and feedback.

    Cheers,
    Angela Spaxman

    Learning from our coaching mistakes:

Coaches are human beings and we face necessary risks frequently during our coaching process. Sometimes, we will make mistakes, even some serious mistakes but this doesn't prevent us from facing the risks and we can still carry on reflectively & intelligently the coaching assignment with our authenticity & professionalism.

This special workshop is an opportunity for us to learn from each other and especially from our past mistakes. We grow by admitting, understanding and transforming our past mistakes. Read more (link)

It will be facilitated by Mr Chi-wang Mau, Managing Director, Paradigm Shift Consultancy. Message from the President

Recently in my contact with Coachville (CV), I was told that CV is exploring the opportunity to establish a CV Satellite Campus in China. The Campus will offer not only the materials from the Thomas Leonard's School of Coaching (of course, in Chinese) , but also to implement the corresponding certification system if the course(s) is/are completed as stipulated. China is regarded as the most prominent potential market for coaching business. Should any members think of how HKCC as a whole can do to promote Hong Kong coaches to this vast market, please contact me.

    Cheers,
    Bonnie Chan
