Dear Coaches,

Our mission is to support YOU to become effective coaches, whether as professional practitioners, or as coaches for your subordinates, friends or family. Are you using your involvement in the HKCC to maximum benefit? Here are some ways you can benefit even more:

  • Attend Personal Inspiration Day to widen your experience of coaching and learn from other coach's styles and methods.
  • Write something about coaching for this newsletter in order to learn, clarify and further your own understanding.
  • Bring a case study to one of the Professional Development meetings and find out how other coaches would approach the issues you face by contacting Ivy Ning.
  • Promote your coaching services by listing in our Directory of Coaches or displaying your leaflets at Personal Inspiration Day. (For paid-up members only.) To inquire about displaying your information, please contact Hilary Davies.
  • Bonus: Whenever you do these things for yourself, many others benefit too.

I'm looking forward to seeing many of you at our June Professional Development meeting and at Personal Inspiration Day.

Cheers,
Angela Spaxman
President

In every issue, we feature a profile on our members. For the June issue, please read about Hilary Davies, Relationship Coach.

Coach training recommends that any coach be a role model and "walk the talk". Hilary is definitely living proof that attraction can work! When one's life is upgraded, more opportunities come along and the individual becomes increasingly attractive. Hilary's experience is that the coaching profession "found" her through a series of "coincidences" (she had been looking for a career that met her values and gave her a sense of mission) and this year she is getting married to her ideal man, who incidentally is nearly 12 years younger than she is!

In addition to individual coaching, she offers two programmes using the principles of attraction. The Attraction Programme is a 5 evening workshop and discussion group using a 5 step process. Her clients learn how to systematically create a life that draws happiness and success to them. Her second workshop is geared towards those who are tired of continually attracting the wrong partner - or not attracting one at all. "Attraction in Action" is a one evening and one day workshop that will help participants become clearer about why they have been attracting Mr/Ms Wrong and how to attract Mr/Ms Right.

Come and meet Hilary at the Coaching Inspiration Day on June 14th to hear more about the principles of attraction.

To find out more about either of the above programmes and when they are being offered, please contact Hilary at 97412414 or send email to: hilary@future-perfect.net

    Media News:

Cecilia Liu has written an article about coaching which was published in the SCMP on June 9, 2003. Vivien Pau, VP Marketing was quoted throughout the article..."Coaching is all about changing perspectives. At the end of the day, it's how one views himself. What they really want." Congratulations to Cecilia Lui and many thanks for her success in promoting the Personal Inspiration Day and the HKCC.

Coaching Tip for Coaches: A Variation on Affirmations
    By Lee R.K. Scott

At a recent HKCC meeting, the topic of "affirmations" arose. Some people have tried affirmations and found them useful, but for others, affirmations haven't worked. Why is this? Most of the time, we are taught to use affirmations suggesting that a desired state is already a fact. For example, "I am rich", or "I have a fat-free waist". However, because such statements are actually more like goals that we rationally know are not true in the present, our minds do not want to accept them easily. We cannot readily convince our subconscious mind of the truth of something that our conscious mind knows is just not true!

Here is another approach you can try which avoids this conflict. Pick a good, positive word or very short phrase that is closely associated with your desired state, such as "abundance", "radiant health", "freedom", or "love" and spend a few minutes, ideally early in the morning, in a relaxed frame of mind meditating on the word. Try to strongly conjure up the emotion that surrounds the word, and consider what it means to you, and how it would feel to have more of it in your life. Let these feelings build up within you, and then gently try to keep that feeling with you throughout the day. This avoids the statement-versus- reality conflict that makes so many affirmation programs fail, and thus works better for many people. I hope it helps you and your clients!

If you have any questions about this technique, send an email to Lee at protrainer@netvigator.com
