Message from the President

With all the upcoming events and projects, it sure looks like another promising and exciting month! It is also glamorous because not only do we have several workshops with experienced coaches and public speakers lined up for you, some of us have also appeared on television recently to promote coaching! No, we haven’t abandoned our professions and turned into actors; TVB Jade will broadcaste a programme based on professional coaching from 7.00 to 7.30pm on 11 July.

  • Feedback and Coaching in Asia: How is it Received? Does it Work? - Joyce Jenkins

    At the tables, the friendly banter and laughter has a nervous edge. You can see an element of bravado in the conversations that are taking place, a sort of mental and sometimes physical squaring of the shoulders preparing for what is to come. But as the papers are handed out, the noise dies down and an expectant hush comes over the room.

    The Top 10: ways to manage people more effectively

    By Deborah WY Ko

    1. Match the right person to the position – define the requirements of the position and find the person who fits the job rather than redefining the job to fit the capabilities of the incumbent;
    2. Continue to provide training courses which help people upgrade their skills – continuous training keeps people at their best;
    3. Acknowledge and reward the high performers – pay them what they are worth, it will be returned to you tenfold or more;
    4. Have expectations and tell people up front exactly what these expectations are;

    Member Profile – Wilson Wan

    Why did you join HKICC?
    I am the Hong Kong representative of ICF and was introduced to Mr. SK Shum, President of HKICC at one of the ICF meetings. Like most of its members, I believe we share a common goal, vision and mission for coaching. I joined HKICC because I wish to make a contribution in several areas but am particularly interested in helping to transform HKICC into a recognized accredited body for the coaching profession in Hong Kong.

    Committee Member Profile – Nana Wong

    Tell us about what you do at HKICC?
    My official post is the Secretary here. Before, I was the Secretary for the CXC sub-committee. In 2004, I was in charge of organizing the free coaching programmes for the Salvation Army and AICSEC. In the same year, I also organized the first Speed Coaching Day and the first free talk for CXC sub-committee.

    Coach Exchange (CXC) Talk – DISC "Dominant Influencing Steady Compliant" 22 June 2006

    By Angela Leung

    There is a saying which is that we are all the same because we are all different. We each have our own individual behavioral styles and that is why interacting with people is the most interesting and challenging part of life. DISC is an assessment tool which helps us to distinguish a person’s behavioral style. It can also help us to understand ourselves and others better. If people learn about this tool and use them at work, they can work more effectively as a team and produce greater results.

    New Members Welcome Lunch

    Find out what really happened when 9 coaches gathered for lunch one weekday in Central. It was not quiet for sure; there was plenty of laughter, good food and of course, being coaches, talk. Our first ever New Members Welcome Lunch organized by our VP Membership, Chi-wang was memorable!
