HKICC Newsletter
December 2007

Message from the President

Dear HKICC Friends,

This is the last issue of HKICC's newsletter in 2007 and instead of looking back on the successes and shortcomings of the past year, I want to draw your focus on the New Year 2008.

While I'm very grateful for all the support we received from numerous members, particularly from those serving in the Management Committee, I also know that the only thing we can influence and create is what happens now and in the future.

I expect that 2008 will be a particularly exciting year because from January 01 there will be a number of changes in HKICC which I believe will have a strong impact on our success and bring us a considerable step closer to our vision to reach 1,000 members by end of 2009.

    Life Coach Success Stories Event

    By Kate Koranyi, Relocation Coach

I was particularly interested in the talk that took place on Wednesday, 14th November 2007, as I'm just starting out as a recently-qualified Life Coach myself and, to be perfectly frank, I haven't yet had much success in attracting clients. It was encouraging to hear the three Life Coaches (Jaime Simpson, Anita Cheung and Monika Parker) talk about how they started out, how they too faced difficulties, and found that it was far from ready-made easy in the beginning.

TOP 5 Ways to Coach, Not Manage, Your Teenager

By Jaime Simpson of Teen Success

Stop managing and start coaching your teen using these 5 keys:

    1. A coach always looks within to facilitate change, a Manager looks around to facilitate change.

    • It starts with you, not with your teen.
    • Identify the qualities in yourself that you don't want to pass down to your teenager.
    • You are the greatest asset to your teenager, they will learn what they live and live what they learn from you. Be responsible by showing consistency in your own life, be consistent with your values around boundaries, alcohol, study, relationships etc

    Meet our Coach-Members: Jaime Simpson

CoachU Graduate, PAC graduate, Dip. Prof. Couns., CIV Workplace assessment and training, Dip. Business. HR, MBTI Trainer

    What led you into coaching?

I started coaching simply because I saw a need. As a full time HR manager, I saw the need of the staff to develop successful home relationships in order to thrive in their work environment. As a volunteer counselor and mentor to young people, I saw the need for teenagers to have healthy role models who could guide them to develop values for their life, increase their confidence and esteem, and help them make healthy decisions whilst transitioning from child to teen and into the adult world.
