December 2005

Dear Friends,

I received a card this week that said "May you have the gladness of Christmas which is hope; The spirit of Christmas which is peace; The heart of Christmas which is love" - I couldn't wish anything more for you at this time of year.

This Christmas, make a conscious effort to renew your hope, your peace and your love.

Next year, I am excited to announce that Michelle Lewis will be our 2006 Coaching Editor. So expect to see a different face from January onwards.

  • The 3rd Speed Coaching Day - The way ahead

The 3rd Speed Coaching Day has been successfully concluded on 19 November 2005. It has been a great day for participants to enjoy a list of benefits from the individual and group coaching sessions provided by our professional coaches:

    • Learn to solve own problems
    • Improve managerial and interpersonal skills
    • Learn how to identify and act on development needs
    • Have a greater confidence
    • Become more effective, assertive in dealing with people
    • Have greater self –awareness and gain of new perspectives…just a few to mention.

I would like to express my gratitude to every one of YOU involving in this project.  Special thanks go to Charlie, Angela, Jack and Ling.

It has been seen that coaching is now in use in a large number of business organizations in Hong Kong.  Its usage is growing fast and indicates increasing evidence in support of coaching.  I am looking forward to seeing the 4th Speed Coaching Day in 2006 and more business organizations will join us to experience the benefits of using coaching.

As we grow with HKCC during these few years, the Speed Coaching Day has become an important landmark for HKCC.  With our determination, vision and participation, I would like to invite you, as professional coaches, to excel yourself in striving for new heights and new horizons in promotion of coaching without hesitation!

See you in the 4th Speed Coaching Day!

Wish you all the best in the 2006 and every success in your professional coaching!!

    Best regards,
Regina Chan, Project Coordinator of the 3rd Speed Coaching Day

    Coaching in the News

    by Angela Spaxman

There has been a flurry of media coverage about coaching in the past month, and several HKCC members have been involved. We held a press conference on November 7 to officially launch the Coaching Standards. Thanks go to Mau Chi-wang, SK Shum, Summer Chan for their support that made this event possible. You can read the Press Release on our site.

    Our Christmas Party

This is it folks. Farewell to HKCC! By Veronica Lee, VP Training

As we all know by now, the theme of our annual party was MAGIC. Once I heard the news, I started to think of the ways to "not" cross the thin line that exists between MAGIC and INSANITY because I'm guilty of having gone over to the other side of the scale, that is, insane side. So I put some very low-keyed item in my bag as I was leaving for the party hoping that I wouldn't have to use the prop at all.

    The Gift of Christmas

    By Monika Parker

Here it is - an unashamed confession: I love Christmas. Ever since I was a small child Christmas has been a special time for me. From walking through the snow - holding my Dad's hand - to choose our own special Christmas tree, to decorating the tree with home-made sweets and glistening ornaments, to my Mum cooking a special feast. And then, after dinner, the exchange of gifts! Oh, what wonders: a toy, anembroidered hanky, a book and new stockings or gloves knitted by my mother (yes, I am that old and yes, we were that poor). Never did I feel disappointed with the, what may be by today's standards, humble gifts. Far from it. Each little item I treasured. For even then I sensed that it wasn't the gifts that made these moments so special but the thought & love that went into each one of them. The knowing that my parents loved and cared for me, even though time and money was scarce. And that's whatChristmas is really all about: The gift is not in how much you spend on a present. The gift is in the knowing that you have taken precious time to think of me. Knowing that the choosing of the gift warms your heart and that the giving and the receiving will create a bond between us long outlasting the present itself. Christmas is about family & friends. Christmas is about caring & sharingChristmas is about smiling at a stranger because you careChristmas is about extending a helping hand to those less fortunate Christmas is about giving from your heart Christmas is about THE GIFT OF LOVE.

I wish you a wonderful Festive Season

    OUR WONDERFUL SPONSORS

    Message from the President

How time flies! We are already approaching the end of 2005 and looking forward to another prosperous new year. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the executive committee members who have contributed their unique talents and valuable time in making this community run effectively.

This year we have increased exchanges with overseas and attracted members from China, Canada and Australia. We have had members organizing coaching programs locally in addition to many unique coaching courses. Within our community two coaching books have been published by our members, one in English and one in Chinese.

I was particularly delighted to see more and more corporations in Hong Kong adopting and implementing coaching culture into their companies. Increasing enquiries about how to become a coach and where to learn coaching has been received by the community. I, therefore, would like to call for your continued support to the community to help further develop this profession to its next stage.

    Cheers,
    Bonnie Chan
    President of HKCC
