Message from the President

Dear Friends,

So long and farewell! This is probably my last message as HKICC’s President. Thank you for your support in the many ways, particularly the participation on activities organized by HKICC over the past year. It has been a great honour and opportunity to serve you as your President. I'd especially like to thank an exceptional group of people, my team mates. My team is a remarkable and dedicated group of coaches that have taken the coaching profession in Hong Kong to new heights. Our Community has a strong foundation on which to build and address future coaching opportunities for our members.

Many thanks also to all of you who have welcomed me into your worlds and elected me about this time last year to lead HKICC.

Troublesome Myths and the New Reality of Professional Coaching: Myth #1

    by Dave Buck

Adapted by Carole Lewis from: http://www.cvcommunity.com/utility/showArticle/

Myth:  A majority of professional life and business coaches are struggling financially because they don't know how to market themselves.

While many coaches may not be great marketers, this is not the reason they are struggling.  There are a few issues here.

    1. If you are going to market a service, you have to know what it is.
    2. You have to be able to describe what you do in language that the buyer understands.
    3. You have to be able to deliver on your promise.

How did you hear about us?
I joined HKICC after the 3rd Speed Coaching Day as one of the participants.

What made you join as a member?
It is good to know more coaches in different disciplines within HKICC as well as I want to be one of them in Hong Kong.

What is one quality which you think is essential to have as a Coach?
It is very important to gain trust and rapport from all those meeting with the Coach.

    How would you describe coaching?
Coaching is an interactive two way communication between coach and coachee. I like to meet with all levels of people.  Being a coach, headhunter
and mentor, I can make use of my different perspectives to face the uniqueness of every coachee.

Review of HKICC’s First Executive Coaching Conference

By Vivien Eakin and Angela Spaxman

Develop Organizational Potential through Executive Coaching – an afternoon of expertise and interaction for senior executives and HR leaders.  This was the catchy title of the first ever event held by the Executive Coaching Committee of the HKICC on 27th March, 2007, led and coordinated by David Mooijaart, HKICC’s VP of Executive Coaching. The enticing program covered the impact of coaching in organizations, the value of coaching, and how to create, lead and implement sustainable coaching programs. The choice of speakers and panelists combined highly relevant 'big picture'” perspectives with local experiences and stories.  Over 20 senior managers from major Hong Kong companies attended and gave very positive feedback. The level of engagement throughout the day was very high with lots of listening, note taking and participation.
